Ashely Fuhrmeister, Teaches Various Classes
Ashley is so grateful for the opportunity to teach at IDA! Growing up, her favorite pastime, aside from dancing, was connecting to others, learning from different teachers & attending live performances. She was able to observe different styles of movement & see how powerful expression is. It inspired her to perform & take class as often as she could.
Ashley had a unique experience, getting the opportunity to student teach & then teach her own dance classes by 16. She was so passionate about teaching, and continued to teach through college when she interned for different sports teams. She eventually gave up working in sports & fully submerged herself into teaching dance. Her greatest lesson has been the revelation that what makes a decent teacher is being a great student first.
Ashley has taught in different schools, dance studios, gyms, backyards (thanks COVID) , summer camps, & even retirement homes. She finds her true passion is working with the younger kids, where she can combine her love for dance, music, yoga & connection with motivation for the children to try to get to know themselves better & have a healthy way of expressing themselves.
Ashley created her own curriculum & currently teaches that in morning & after school programs to support healthy mindsets. She encourages everyone she meets that dancing can be so beneficial & even therapeutic! Ashley also has the privilege to set choreography for musicals at Springfield Middle School, Ancillae, Mastery Charter School & Colonial Middle School. Ashley still performs regularly, volunteers with S.T.O.A.C., is a certified adult & childrens yoga teacher, aspiring guitar player & fire spinning enthusiast.
She grew up in Collegeville, went to college in Pittsburgh & now lives in Phoenixville with her silly dog, Parker.
She’ll often ask the kids “who is the teacher here?”
That’s because she believes they teach her more than she teaches them.
